HB9HC and H26

HB9HC on H26 2024

Since the QTH had about 20 cm of snow on the ground, HB9ABO, HB9CMI and HB9CGA decided to start setting up the antennas on Friday. Mr. Alder, the owner of the QTH, transported part of the material up with his vehicle. We were very grateful for that. HB9CMI was able to drive up himself with his 4-wheel drive car. With a few unexpected problems, we then set up the mast and the dipoles. We also laid the coax cables into the shack.

On Saturday at noon, we met with the assembled team again at the parking lot for the site. The rest of the material was transported up, and after a short lunch break at the restaurant, we began installing the equipment. Unfortunately, I discovered that the WIFI transmitter for the mouse and keyboard was missing. On the spur of the moment, I drove back home to get the device. Despite this mishap, we were able to start the contest on time.

We already knew from last time that we would cause interference with the restaurant's lights at 160m. Also, the QRM on this band was extremely high. As a result of these circumstances, we only worked with 100W on 160m. The host then told us when we left that we had also made the bedside lamps light up with QRP. He generously just switched them off.

On this occasion, I would like to express my sincere thanks for the hospitality of the owner and the host couple. It is not a given that one is welcome with such requests. Our thanks also go to HB9KOG, Röbi, who made his PA available to us.

HB9HC participated again this year from the office/AR with the usual equipment and setup. Despite intensive searching, no overnight accommodation options were found in the immediate vicinity. Despite these difficulties, the team found a solution to organize themselves.
Participants and operators were HB9ABO, HB9BSH, HB9CGA, HB9CMI, HB9KOG, HB9TVK. The usual "Grand Diner" break on Saturday was maintained in order to have all OPs together at one table. QSOs with HTC members and CW enthusiasts were highly appreciated. We are always happy to have this or that acquaintance in the log again.
Years 2020 and 2021
Due to the Covid-19 situation, no H26 contest activity could be carried out at the headquarters in the canton of Appenzell (AR) in 2020, our HTC's 40th anniversary year, nor in the following year, 2021.
We hope to be able to join you again next year!
